Quilting, Papercrafting and Sweet Sketch Wednesday...

I have always loved to craft...  Crewel, Embroidery, Counted Cross Stitch (have a project going on now =), Quilting, Knitting and Papercrafting.  Over the weekend I made a quilt that has a bit of a story...  I lost a very dear friend earlier this year.  Back a few years she and I were at the Cape and we happened upon a Quilt shop.  We had recently been to Nantucket for the Daffodil Festival and the idea came about to purchase some "beachy" fabrics for a quilt I was going to put together for her.  She had so much fun picking out the fabrics, and when we got to a certain point she insisted the quilt have some pink (her favorite color) and some green (my favorite color)...  Well, I had gotten away from sewing, and never got that quilt put together...  Well, on Thanksgiving day, her daughter will be getting married and I thought what better gift than to put that quilt together and it would not only be a gift from me, but in a way, a gift from her Mom...  So at every opportunity between church and work, I have been sewing since Saturday and finished and delivered the quilt last night.  Thought I would share a few pics...

I wonder if any of you are quilters too?  I think the thing I love about making cards and working with paper is it is a LOT like quilting, on a much smaller scale with almost instant satisfaction...  Enough of my babbling and on to share with you this week's Sketch from Sweet Sketch Wednesday.

Our Sponsor this week is Eureka Stamps!!  I fell in love with this sweet Elephant image and knew I had to create a card for the latest addition to my extended family, my Great Nephew Jack born two weeks ago.  He lives south of Washington D.C. so I have only seen him in pics and on quality "Face Time" but I am hopeful to meet him around Christmas... so hopeful!!!

Eureka has some great stamps!!  You can check them out by clicking HERE

This week's Winner will receive 5 free images so be sure to head on over to Sweet Sketch Wednesday and play along!!

Thanks so much for stopping by!!
Blessings to you!!

  2. Sally,
What a beautiful thoughtful gift. Your friends daughter is going to be so touched, by this stunning quilt.
Your card is just adorable, such a sweet elephant, great for baby cards too. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
    Hugs, Heide

  3. I'm a quilter too and I completely agree with you. I noticed that when I got into quilting that I started hoarding fabric in the same way that I hoard paper!! Your quilt is gorgeous (I just finished a baby quilt and I'll share THAT one next week) I love your card too. That elephant is soo sweet.

  4. Hi Sally I just love your quilt and your friends daughter will totally adore it and she will always think of you and her mother when using it. I've done a little quilting, many years ago and I did it by hand I've never quilted by machine. I did my cross stitch my don't seem to do much of that any more. Love your babies card it's so cute and wonderful colours and embellishments. Take care and Happy Thanksgiving wishing you a wonderful week.

  5. I have put together a few quilt tops in my time. Drool over pretty fabrics and have a large collection of pretty cottons to put together......some day. Or perhaps that should read, some day my family may need to toss them out or give them away!! Paper is, as you say, a quicker satisfaction and accomplishment. However, I love to pull the soft fabrics out now and then to touch and pretend I will put them together as a comforting piece of art!

  6. Your quilt is gorgeous. Yes, I am a quilter too. I haven't made any for about a year now. I need to get my machine worked on. Once I start, I cna't stop. And yes, it is much like paper crafting. LOL.
Your card is adorable Sally. I makes such a cute baby card.
I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving.
    Hugs, Nancy

  7. Wowza Sally, I am in awe of this beautiful quilt!!! How beautiful! I took a beginners quilting class but never followed up by making anything. Your card is oh so sweet too. Love that sweet little elephant. Happy Monday.
